prompt dictionary

april and october 2024 Editions

Overview:
In collaboration with Google Cloud and my team at 300Brand, I designed a two-part printed and digital booklet series titled Prompt Guide 101. The series was created to help professionals across industries understand how to integrate Gemini — Google’s generative AI assistant—into their everyday workflows. These guides were distributed at high-profile events and published online as accessible, easy-to-digest resources. The most recent full digital copy can be downloaded here—definitely give it a read, I actually got some great tips to implement into my own work while working on this project.

Approach:
All written content was provided by the research team at 300Brand, and I led the visual execution—placing content into a clean, modular layout system designed for clarity, scalability, and ease of translation. Each prompt example was broken down into 4 parts: persona, task, context, and format. Each of these segments were highlighted in different colors respectively.

The booklets were printed in a compact, 4×7 saddle-stitched format, so the layout needed to be readable at small sizes, adaptable for quick edits, and built with localization in mind. I ensured files were easy for Google’s internal teams to update, with consistent styles and flexible text containers to accommodate translated content.

To demonstrate the value of Gemini in real-world scenarios, I personally used the full suite of Google Workspace’s tools—Docs, Gmail, Sheets, and Gemini’s platform. I captured authentic screenshots of each use case scenario and outcome, giving readers a visual step-by-step guide that connected directly to their workflows. For example,

All design work adhered strictly to Gemini’s brand guidelines, including the use of their official color palette, typography, and icon system to maintain a consistent and professional visual tone.

Gemini for Google Workspace prompting guide
october 2024 edition

The initial April edition was so well-received that Google Workspace requested an expanded follow-up issue for October 2024. This second iteration needed to move beyond basic onboarding to showcase the new sophisticated integration of Gemini within Docs, Sheets, and Gmail. Because the Gemini brand identity had undergone some changes in the months between releases, the visuals needed updating. This involved updating colors, iconography, and app UI screenshots.

result:

Prompt Guide 101 was praised for its clarity, visual consistency, and hands-on practicality. It remains a valuable asset for Google Workspace—used at industry events and in digital outreach to help professionals understand and apply AI tools in a meaningful, approachable way that yields results. There’s been a lot of really great write-ups about the guide about how it has been a total game-changer in how users prompt.
